In 2016, I planned to make some drawings on the banks of Yangtze River, the details of what to paint is not planned yet. I just brought my brush and ink, and went there for two short residencies. During the first trip, I went to Chongming Island, which locates in the estuary of Yangtze River to the East Sea. I wandered in the island for a whole month, and painted on outdoor places like dams, shores and trees. During the second trip, I went to Chongqing, this time I painted on rocks on the shore, flyover, buildings etc. Most of these works are tailored to the location and texture, hoping to present the shapes of some powerful forms. It is also because of the shore, these works bear the shape of transition from aquatic organisms to reptiles.
Ranaka is a place in southern part of Gansu province, it is more like an uncharted field appears on a highway sign for a traveler on the car. “Ranaka” for me is like an open source code to trigger some kind of drawing, the form of creations including: ink graffiti, drawing on paper, drawing on canvas, abstract sketches etc.
These works tend to capture the flow of consciousness, the initial state of symbols and the growth mechanism of organisms etc. “Ranaka” tries to allow drawing resonate with Gaia system and consciousness production, and interprets the trajectory of certain energy movement into images.
